Artist Statement Encaustic is from the ancient Greek word which means to heat. The medium consists of beeswax melted with a small amount of resin to impart hardness. This mixture becomes paint when pigment is added to the molten wax. Nature and organic forms influence my work and are expressed with line and texture. My use of mixed media with color suspended in wax creates hidden layers and translucent depth. The images encapsulate and diffuse light, inviting one to touch and explore the many textures in the paintings. |
